The Frankfurt-Tel Aviv Center for the Study of Religious and Interreligious Dynamics (Goethe University Frankfurt and Tel Aviv University), the Buber-Rosenzweig Institute at Goethe University Frankfurt, and the LOEWE Center “Dynamics of Religion: Ambivalent Neighborhoods between Judaism, Christianity and Islam in Historical and Present Constellations” at the Universities of Frankfurt, Marburg and Giessen invite applications for their international Summer School for graduate students (Master and PhD) to take place at Goethe University Frankfurt, August 30 to September 8, 2026.
Entitled “Interreligious Dynamics in Times of Conflict – Past and Present,” it will be devoted to processes of interreligious dynamics across a broad array of historical, systematic, and political dimensions ranging from antiquity to the present – with a focus on both the role of religious difference in political conflicts and the potential religions offer for dialogical encounters and conflict resolution.
As lecturers, we will enlist distinguished experts in the field of religious and interreligious studies from Goethe University Frankfurt, Tel Aviv University and other institutions. They include Menachem Fisch (Tel Aviv), Yossef Schwarz (Tel Aviv), Bekim Agai (Frankfurt), Armina Omerika (Frankfurt), Simone Hallstein (Frankfurt), Avi Siluk (Frankfurt), Maayan K. Raveh (Haifa), Orr Scharf (Haifa), Karma Ben Jochanan (Jerusalem), Julie Cooper (Tel Aviv University), among others.
Courses will be held in English.
Students from Goethe University who fulfil the requirements (attendance, a presentation and/or an essay written afterwards) will be credited with 3–6 credit points; students from Tel Aviv University and other universities can obtain a certificate of attendance and make their own arrangements with their respective institutions.
The Summer School is designed for graduate students: MA and PhD students are welcome to apply. There will be no general fee for the Summer School and accommodation will be provided by the organizing institutions. A limited number of fellowships for travel expenses will be available and can be discussed individually as soon as the application process has been completed.
MA and PhD students interested in applying for the Summer School are invited to submit a brief letter of motivation (approx. 200–300 words) and a short academic CV, not exceeding one page, to:
