Ausschreibung: 15 Promotionsstellen am LOEWE-Zentrum „DynaRel“

OFFIZIELLER AUSSCHREIBUNGSTEXT:

An der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, der Philipps-Universität Marburg und der Justus-Liebig-Institut Gießen wird vom Hessischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung, Kunst und Kultur (HMWK) ein neues LOEWE-Zentrum mit dem Titel „Dynamiken des Religiösen: Ambivalente Nachbarschaften zwischen Judentum, Christentum und Islam in historischen und gegenwärtigen Konstellationen“ gefördert (2026-2032, 1. Förderphase 2026-2029). Das interdisziplinäre geistes- und sozialwissenschaftliche LOEWE-Zentrum konzentriert sich unter der Federführung der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt in seinen fünf Programmbereichen und 31 Teilprojekten darauf, mit Hilfe des relationalen Theoriekonzepts der „Nachbarschaften“ die vielschichtigen – dialogischen wie konflikthaften – religiösen, kulturellen und politisch-sozialen Verflechtungen und Dynamiken zwischen Judentum, Christentum und Islam in Geschichte und Gegenwart zu erforschen. Der akademische Koordinator des LOEWE Zentrums ist Prof. Dr. Christian Wiese (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt); als Stellvertreterinnen fungieren Prof. Dr. Armina Omerika (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt) und Prof. Dr. Antje Röder (Philipps-Universität Marburg). 

Am Fachbereich Evangelische Theologie der Goethe-Universität (Sitz der Koordination) sind vorbehaltlich der endgültigen Bewilligung durch das HMWK zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt 15 drittmittelfinanzierte Stellen von 

Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter*innen (m/w/d)
(E 13 TV-G-U, 65%-Teilzeit) 

befristet bis zum 31.12.2029 zu besetzen. Die Eingruppierung richtet sich nach den Tätigkeitsmerkmalen des für die Goethe-Universität geltenden Tarifvertrages (TV-G-U). 

Die Promotionsstellen sind nach Maßgabe der beteiligten Fachbereiche und Disziplinen thematisch und methodisch unterschiedlich ausgerichtet. Das Zentrum gliedert sich in fünf Programmbereiche, denen an der Goethe-Universität folgende Teilprojekte und Promotionsstellen zugeordnet sind: 

Programmbereich 1: Religiös-kulturelle Verflechtungen: Übersetzung – Transfer – Medialität

  • Geschichtswissenschaft (Alte Geschichte): 1 Promotionsstelle (65 %) im Teilprojekt „Religiöse Dialoge in der Spätantike: Die Perspektive des Anderen“ (Prof. Dr. Hartmut Leppin, FB 08)
  • Islamische Studien (Schwerpunkt Koranexegese): 1 Promotionsstelle (65%) im Teilprojekt „Zur Kontextualisierung der ambivalenten Positionierungen des Korans zu Andersgläubigen anhand frühislamischer Überlieferungen“ (Prof. Dr. Ömer Özsoy, FB 09)
  • Religionswissenschaft (Jüdisch-islamische Beziehungen in Geschichte und Gegenwart): 1 Promotionsstelle (65%) im Teilprojekt „Neighborhood Bibles: Die Verbreitung des Tanach/AT-Textes unter muslimischen Autoren (8.-15. Jh.)“ (Prof. Dr. Nathan Gibson, FB 06)
  • Judaistik (Geschichte des deutschen und europäischen Judentums): 1 Promotionsstelle (65%) im Teilprojekt „Gelebter Synkretismus? Jüdisch-christliche Gemeinden im Kontext der pietistischen Judenmission der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine“ (Prof. Dr. Rebekka Voß, FB 09)
  • Islamische Studien (Schwerpunkt Normenlehre des Islam): 1 Promotionsstelle im Teilprojekt „Dimensionen der Moral in religiösen Gesetzen im säkularen Kontext am Beispiel des assistierten Suizids“ (Prof. Dr. Rana Alsoufi, FB 09)

  • Religionswissenschaft und Religionsgeschichte (Schwerpunkt Schiitischer Islam): 1 Promotionsstelle (65%) im Teilprojekt „Religiöse Minderheiten in der Wüstenstadt Yazd (Iran) im 19. Jh. – Interreligiöse Nachbarschaften und transnationale Handelsnetzwerke“ (Prof. Dr. Catherina Wenzel, FB 06)

  • Jüdische Religionsphilosophie/Jüdische Geschichte: 1 Promotionsstelle (65%) im Teilprojekt „Jüdisch-diasporische Konzepte und Erfahrungen multireligiöser Nachbarschaft in Auseinandersetzung mit dem modernen Antisemitismus“ (Prof. Dr. Christian Wiese und Apl.-Prof. Dr Stefan Vogt, FB 06) 

Programmbereich 5: Öffentliche Erziehung und Bildung, Religion und Didaktik im Kontext

  • Geschichtswissenschaft (Didaktik der Geschichte): 1 Promotionsstelle (65%) im Teilprojekt „Narrative ‚religiöser Nachbarschaft‘ aus geschichtsdidaktischer Perspektive – Analyse, Konzeption, Transfer“ (Prof. Dr. Josef Memminger, FB 08)

Kernaufgaben 

  • Bearbeitung eines eigenen Forschungsprojekts mit dem Ziel der Promotion im thematischen Rahmen eines der Teilprojekte an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt
  • Mitarbeit in der theoriegeleiteten Forschung der Disziplin, in der das eigene Promotionsprojekt bearbeitet wird
  • Mitarbeit an dem universitätsübergreifenden interdisziplinären Promotionskolleg „Dynamiken des Religiösen“
  • Mitwirkung an den gemeinsamen interdisziplinären Veranstaltungen, Kolloquien und Publikationen des LOEWE-Zentrums 

Anforderungsprofil

  • ein mindestens guter wissenschaftlicher Hochschulabschluss (Master / Diplom oder äquivalent) in einem für das jeweilige Teilprojekt einschlägigen Fachgebiet (u.a. Religionswissenschaft, Judaistik, Islamische Studien, Evangelische bzw. Katholische Theologie, Geschichtswissenschaft, Philosophie, Archäologie, Ethnologie/Kulturanthropologie, Soziologie, Erziehungswissenschaft)
  • Fähigkeit und Bereitschaft zu eigenständigem, theoretisch fundiertem, interdisziplinär orientiertem wissenschaftlichem Arbeiten
  • Team-, Kommunikations- und Organisationsfähigkeit, strukturierte Arbeitsweise
  • ausgezeichnete Englischkenntnisse, gute bis sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse oder Bereitschaft, diese in kurzer Zeit zu erwerben
  • spezifische zusätzliche Sprachkenntnisse und fachlich-methodische Kompetenzen im Rahmen des jeweiligen Teilprojekts (s. Projektbeschreibung)
  • ausgeprägtes Interesse an interreligiösen, interkulturellen und gesellschaftstheoretischen Fragestellungen
  • Bereitschaft zur Einarbeitung in relevante digitale Methoden

The academic coordinator of the LOEWE Center is Prof. Dr. Christian Wiese (Goethe University Frankfurt); Prof. Dr. Armina Omerika (Goethe University Frankfurt) and Prof. Dr. Antje Röder (Philipps University Marburg) serve as deputies. 

Subject to final approval by the HMWK, 15 third-party funded positions for 

research assistants (m/f/d)
(E13 TV-G-U, 65% part-time) 

are available at the Department of Protestant Theology (coordinating unit) at Goethe University Frankfurt as soon as possible for a fixed term until 31.12.2029. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U). 

The doctoral positions vary in terms of subject matter and methodology depending on the departments and disciplines involved. The center is divided into five program areas, to which the following subprojects and doctoral positions at Goethe University are assigned: 

Program area 1: Religious-cultural Interrelationships: Translation – Transfer – Mediality

  • History (Ancient History): 1 doctoral position (65%) in the subproject „Religious Dialogues in Late Antiquity: The Perspective of the Other“ (Prof. Dr. Hartmut Leppin, FB 08)

  • Religious Studies (Jewish-Islamic Relations in History and the Present): 1 doctoral position (65%) in the subproject „Neighborhood Bibles: The Dissemination of the Tanakh/Old Testament Text among Muslim Authors (8th-15th Centuries)“ (Prof. Dr. Nathan Gibson, FB 06)

  • History (History Didactics): 1 doctoral position (65%) in the subproject „Narratives of ‚religious neighborhood‘ from a History Didactics Perspective – Analysis, Conception, Transfer“ (Prof. Dr. Josef Memminger, FB 08)
  • Educational Science (focus on youth and school): 1 doctoral position in the subproject „School Cultures and the Creation of Differentiating Orders“ (Prof. Dr. Merle Hummrich, FB 04)

Core tasks 

  • Working on your own research project with the aim of obtaining a doctorate within the thematic framework of one of the subprojects at Goethe University Frankfurt
  • Collaboration in theory-driven research in the discipline in which the doctoral candidate’s own doctoral project is being worked on
  • Collaboration in the interdisciplinary cross-university doctoral program „Dynamics of Religion“
  • Participation in joint interdisciplinary events, colloquia, and publications of the LOEWE Center

Requirements

  • at least a good university degree (master / diploma or equivalent) in a subject relevant to the respective subproject (including religious studies, Jewish studies, Islamic studies, Protestant or Catholic theology, history, philosophy, archaeology, ethnology/cultural anthropology, sociology, education)
  • Ability and willingness to conduct independent, theoretically sound, interdisciplinary scientific work
  • Teamwork, communication, and organizational skills, structured approach to work
  • excellent English skills, good to very good German skills, or willingness to acquire them in a short period of time
  • specific additional language skills and methodological competencies within the scope of the respective subproject (see project description)
  • strong interest in interreligious, intercultural, and social
    theory issues
  • Willingness to acquire knowledge in the field of relevant digital methods
